Could Caffeine be the Solution for Your Migraines?

Caffeine as a SOLUTION?

I was going through websites one night and found one that advocated using caffeine to cure migraines. The site displayed a picture of a male and female doctor at the top. I started reading some of the material and was astounded to find the author claiming that the best way to treat a migraine is obviously through painkillers.  First of all, there is nothing obvious about that. Secondly, painkillers should rarely be used to treat a migraine. The article then went on to discuss specific painkillers that incorporate caffeine.

California State Senate rejects GMO labeling again

Is it a surprise to anyone that this bill failed, when you have the likes of Monsanto and Dow Chemical buying the votes of politicians for sometimes as little as just a steak dinner? It is completely outrageous that Californians are not able to know whether or not food contains GMOs by looking at a label on the product. But of course, anyone who knows anything about the prevalence of GMOs in our food supply is aware that GMOs are found in 95% or more of everything that we consume. Why then are organizations and companies fighting so hard to not label GMOs? What harm could come from consumers simply knowing what we are consuming? And, what should we do about it?

Wall Street Journal “Hunt for a Migraines Cure”

On August 7, 2012, Shirley Wang wrote in the Wall Street Journal about recent advancements in the research for a migraine cure. In particular, she wrote that researchers have isolated a brain chemical, known as calcitonin gene-related peptide transmitter (“CGRP”) to be responsible for the transmission of migraine pain. She further wrote that researchers are in the process of coming up with medicines that would block CGRP from forming and thus prohibit any migraine pain from occurring. Several doctors were quoted in the article and one of the so-called experts stated that there was an immediate need to develop drugs that would stop any pain from being felt by migraine sufferers.

Identifying Tension Headaches

Get a handle on your tension headaches!

A migraine is a vascular headache that involves pain on one side of your head in addition to nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. What Do The Words “Migraine Relief” Mean to You?

Migraine relief is a migraine free life and don’t let anyone tell you different

Migraine relief usually means different things to different people. When I think about it, a migraine free life is where I can eat what I want and do what I want without being held back by the pains of a migraine.

Real relief is not about removing the symptoms of a headache. Most drug companies and doctors would have you believe that relief will never happen and the best you can do is resort to certain medications to improve your lifestyle. In essence, we are taught that migraine relief comes when you ingest a tablet. You need to become your own advocate by listening and responding to your body. Only then can you have a chance at real migraine relief. The path begins by trying to find the cause.

Migraines do not cause brain damage

Brain damage theory debunked!

Researchers in France conducted a cognitive study on whether migraine sufferers were more likely than non-migraine sufferers to have brain damage later on in life. The researchers found that there was nothing to suggest that those suffering from migraines were more likely to suffer brain damage (1).

Migraines and Cardiovascular Disease

Research over the last few years has found that migraine sufferers are approximately 50% more likely to develop cardiovascular disease and also face increased risks of stroke as a result of migraine headaches. The risk factors include: diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Results showed that migraine sufferers were twice as likely to have a heart attack. The research suggests that migraines weaken the inner layer of blood vessels inside, as well as, outside the brain. According to the study, which was published in the February 2010 issue of Neurology, those with migraines should start preparing for these cardiovascular disease risks at an early age1.

Monosodium Glutamate (“MSG”) bad for Migraine Sufferers

What is MSG and where does it come from? MSG is a sodium salt of glutamic acid, a naturally occurring non-essential amino acid (1). It is made by fermenting certain carbohydrates in addition to using certain bacterial and yeast species. MSG functions as a food additive and has been marketed to enhance the taste of certain foods. When we generally think of MSG, we think of East Asian cuisine. Why should Migraine sufferers stay away from foods that contain MSG?
